Before you start

1. Match firmware and read the notes first

  • DJI recommends keeping the aircraft, batteries and remote controller firmware up to date before each flight. If an update fails, restart the device and try again; contact DJI Support if it persists. [1][11][9]
  • The aircraft, remote controller, payloads and batteries must be on compatible versions. Otherwise the aircraft cannot take off or there may be safety risks. [6][11]
  • When some modules don't match the system's compatible version, DJI Pilot 2 asks for a consistent firmware update. [12][8]
  • Read the current release notes, and the known-issue list where DJI publishes one, before you replace a part over a calibration or update fault. [13][14][15][16][17][18]

2. Safety

  • Keep the aircraft away from people and animals during a firmware update, system calibration or parameter configuration. [12][7]
  • Use trusted external devices when you exchange data over the internet or update firmware. [12]
  • Don't remove accessories or power off devices during an update. [12]

Stop and send in
Send it in when
  • The status indicators stay solid red (critical error). [12][10][3]
  • Sensor bias stays at 0.05 or above after you recalibrate. [6][11]
  • Gimbal drift continues after IMU and compass calibration. DJI says contact DJI Support. [12][8]
Calibration 2

Compass calibration

Rules for every model

  • Only calibrate when DJI Pilot 2 or the aircraft status indicators prompt you. Blinking red and yellow alternately means compass calibration is required. [7][12][10][8]
  • The M30 manual also recommends calibrating before the first takeoff after long storage, after the aircraft was near strong magnets, or before a night takeoff. [3]
  • Don't calibrate near magnets, parking lots, construction sites with underground reinforced concrete, or metal such as bridges, cars or scaffolding. Carry no phones or other ferromagnetic items. [3][5][12]
  • If DJI Pilot 2 reports strong interference after calibration, follow the on-screen instructions. [12][7]

Procedure (M30, M350, M300)

  1. Step 1

    Start

M30 and M350: in the DJI Pilot 2 camera view, open settings, then Sensor Status, Compass, Calibrate Compass. The rear indicators turn solid yellow. M300: tap the aircraft status bar, select Calibrate and follow the prompts. [3][7][5]
  2. Step 2

    Horizontal turn

Hold the aircraft level and rotate it 360°. The M30 manual says about 1.5 m (4.92 ft) off the ground. The indicators turn solid green. [3][7]
  3. Step 3

    Vertical turn

Hold it nose-down and rotate it 360° around the center axis. [3][7][5]
  4. Step 4

    Read the result

Blinking red: calibrate again. Red and yellow alternating after calibration: strong interference, so move and retry. If the prompt comes back once the aircraft is on the ground, move to another spot and recalibrate. [3][7]
